Victória Romanelli reports that Palmeiras and Botafogo played a great game as leaders of the Brazilian Championship. The Verdão saw their rivals have a stroke of luck and ended up defeated 1-0, in a match valid for the 17th round, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Tiquinho Soares scored the only goal of the game. The biggest protagonists of the game were the goalkeepers John, from Botafogo, and Weverton, from Palmeiras, who made great saves throughout the match.
The first half was intense with chances created on both sides. Before the 15-minute mark, Weverton had already made two great saves from shots by Marlon Freitas and Júnior Santos. The first great opportunity for Verdão came at 17 minutes. Marcos Rocha gave a good pass to Flaco López, the Argentine invaded the area, took a shot, and saw John make the save. Despite the loss, Palmeiras shouldn't be discouraged for the rest of the season. Some lessons will be learned from this game, but the highlight is the competitiveness from start to finish and the small drop in performance even after the conceded goal.
